Although, Whoopies have had a loyal following in the Northeast United States for many years, particularly in Maine, consensus seems to be that the original Whoopie was developed by the Amish in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

I always respond that it's a combination of fresh, natural ingredients, small batch preparation and a dynamite cream cheese filling that anchors most of our Whoopies. Some kitchens use a more traditional marshmallow-shortening or buttercream filling, but at My Whoopie Pies we use a tangy cream cheese based filling that we believe really makes for the best Whoopie Pies, particularly our Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Whoopies.
